About Nicolette
Nicolette earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations at Wayne State University.
She is a journalist, that fell in love with writing at an early age. Through her writing, she plan’s on giving her community a voice in hopes of fostering change; moreover, she wants her writing to inspire, encourage, and uplift her people. While attending Wayne State University, she was a contributing writer for “The South End”, a local publication owned and operated by Wayne State University. She is committed to following a public relations path that will eventually lead her to owning and operating her own PR firm.
With more than three years of experience in communications. She is an expert in strategy development, media relations, and project management. She was the public relations intern for Fifth Third Bank’s Community and Economic Development. There, she created and managed the company’s newsletter, had a featured byline in their six-page Michigan Chronicle Tabloid and photographed many of the company’s events. Prior to working for Fifth Third Bank, she worked with Action of Greater Lansing as their public relations assistant. There she wrote press releases, photographed events, and managed the non-profit's website. She currently is a freelancer that develops digital strategies and produces content for the website and social media of a luxury, athletic wear company called Renzo Cardoni. Furthermore, she is the social media editor for Lansing’s Ingham County Commissioner candidate Derrell Slaughter campaign and the Digital Media Strategist for New Hope Baptist Church.
Recently, she has assisted in the development, as well as write, for Better Made blog, covering unique stories and discovering new places and events in Detroit.
Nicolette is also a mentor for a non-profit group called (Q.U.E.EN.S) Queens Uniquely Educated & Equipped with Never-failing Success, sisterhood among girls from fourth grade to eleventh grade who are taught to create a lifelong sister-bonds. The mission is to allow young women to participate in intentional activities that will help them to begin to discover their individual purpose, which will spark their natural talents and abilities; and unlock different areas of their destinies.
What drives her the most is her love for art, fashion, and music. She believes these three major elements can be important when discussing, understanding, and influencing different cultures.
Nicolette wants to cover stories using these three key element, she wants to write stories to shed light on new and old artist and entertainment around the city. Overall, she would like to show the positive side of Detroit.
Through these experiences, She has a solid education foundation and a passion for communications. She is highly organized with excellent communications skills; easily build relationships of trust and accomplish objective goals with creativity and enthusiasm. She possesses strong work ethics and welcomes the opportunity to learn and take on new skills.
